Fear
Fear is the greatest challenge we face in our lives. Fear comes
bundled up as reason or pragmatism or it comes hand in hand with
tradition or culture. It creeps into our lives disguised as love
or care. How is it that no one teaches us the history of fear or
the biochemistry of fear? We live in fear hoping that one-day someone
or something will either rescue us or at the very least will numb
us from the constant anxiety that fear creates.
Fear has a smell - it has a palpable quality that we are all familiar
with. We feel it as a stomachache, tightness in our chests, constriction
in our throats or as dread in our minds. We live with it with a
smile on our faces and cheer in our voices. Why do we do that? Why
do we not want to address the fear at hand?
Here is an exercise in consciousness that will help you to release
fear from your body.
Sit down in a comfortable position. Take a deep breath and close
your eyes. Allow yourself to adjust to the awareness within. When
you are ready take another deep breath and ask your body where it
is holding fear. You may feel it or sense it. It could be your stomach
or your foot - just take the first place that comes into your awareness.
What does the fear feel or look like? Again, allow yourself to know
it – become familiar with it consciously so that you can recognize
it. Now ask that place in your body what colour or colours does
it want to release the fear. Take the first colour(s) that come
into your awareness and imagine it coming from the universe directly
into the body part that is holding the fear. Imagine the colour(s)
dissolving the fear. Take as much colour as you need. You may feel
a shift or a tingling sensation. Once it is cleared take a couple
of deep breaths and open your eyes.
You can repeat this exercise as many times as you would like. Remember
you do not have to live with fear. Phew!
